From Takamatsu sensei’s autobiography
Toate no Jutsu is a method for defeating an enemy of distance. There are secret scrolls and books that explain this, but they are difficult to comprehend. There are three “kiai” (harmonized energy; 氣合) which can be used for this;
– “A” – breaking the opponent’s intention
– “KA” – which breaks the opponent’s technique
– “EI” – which breaks body movement
Either way, the key is to have the essence of correct heart (Seishin; 正心). In martial arts there is no reason to focus only on victory or loss in battle. But he who does not fully give himself in battle is not true martial artist – those practitioners who simply use violence do not have seishin and are inhumane.
Nowadays there is the sport of judo, which focuses on the pleasure of fighting and building up the body. They only want to win and because of this, they bend their hips as they fight, instead of having an upright posture in equilibrium.
When I look at this sport, and because it has its origin in contravention art, I feel ashamed and it gives me chills.
A real warrior wins by using the natural movements of the highest internal quality and if one moves and displaces according to this authentic theory they will always prevail.
